What Walmart rewards that Amazon does not

Content quality score, shipping speed, and price competitiveness all feed placement. Copying your Amazon catalogue across ignores all three.

Most brands try Walmart once, do about two thousand dollars a month, and conclude the channel does not work for them. We have now taken that conclusion apart three times and it has been wrong three times, for the same reason each time.

They uploaded the Amazon catalogue and turned on automatic campaigns. On Amazon that is a defensible starting point. On Walmart it is not a test of anything.

Content quality score is a real ranking input

Walmart scores every listing on completeness and shows you the score in Seller Center. Attributes you can safely ignore on Amazon, things like shelf description, key features count, and category specific fields, feed that score directly, and the score feeds search placement.

An Amazon listing ported across typically lands somewhere around sixty percent. Getting it above ninety is a data entry job, not a creative one, and it moves organic placement before you spend anything on media.

Images are a different shape

Walmart wants square. Amazon effectively wants square too but tolerates a lot, and most brands have image stacks that are subtly off ratio and full of text placed for Amazon crops. On Walmart they render badly and get flagged in the listing quality report.

Shipping speed is part of the ranking

This is the one that catches people. Walmart weights delivery speed in search results, and a listing without a properly configured shipping template that qualifies for two day delivery is competing with one hand tied. If you are on Walmart Fulfillment Services this is handled. If you are shipping yourself, your template is a ranking factor.

Price competitiveness is enforced harder

Walmart will suppress the Buy Box entirely if your price is above what the item sells for elsewhere, including on Amazon. Not demote it. Remove it. Brands running Amazon promotions without matching on Walmart do this to themselves regularly and then report that Walmart traffic died.

How to actually test it

Pick eight to twelve products that suit the channel, meaning decent review depth, a price point that survives Walmart fee structure, and a shipping profile that qualifies for two day. Rebuild the listings properly. Then run automatic campaigns only, at a small budget, for six weeks, and read the search terms.

Walmart shoppers search differently. They use fewer modifiers and more brand plus category phrasing. The keyword list you built on Amazon will not fit, and six weeks of automatic data is how you find the one that does. We launched a camping brand with nine hundred dollars a month across four SKUs and it reached profitability in week eighteen.
